Where The Top Songs Came From
Last month, SiriusXM delivered the chart-topping song by Real Estate titled “Flowers“, a track blending indie rock with country influences to such an extent that the band describes it as “the closest we’ll ever get to a Shania Twain-style country rocker.”
Claptone hit #2 with “D.A.N.C.E.” by Illyus & Barrientos, the duo hailing from Scotland who is known for their high-energy house music productions and have established themselves as one of the most prolific and in-demand DJ-producer duos in the UK.
Apple Music brings us “seven-twenty-four” by Le Youth, a deep house gem from one of the most prominent figures in melodic house music, who describes his sound as “breezy California vibes touched by a twist of European flair and an air of mystery.”
Abbey Cone and her “This Little Light of Mine” came close to the podium with a country song about giving yourself grace in the wake of hard times, another gem we discovered on Apple music. Abbey Cone is a rising country music artist known for her honest and relatable songwriting. This song showcases her vocal talent and ability to connect with listeners through her heartfelt lyrics.
A user-submitted track, “American Horse” by Black Stone Cherry, reached #5. Originally released in 1989, the song now features Skillet frontman John Cooper and rocker Ayron Jones.
Spotify delivered a new version of “O Superman” originally released in 1981, reimagined by Chemical Surf. The Brazilian electronic duo, known for their innovative remixes, transforms the track into a deep and hypnotic groove
Airwolf Paradise and Rex The Dog climbed the charts with their revamp of the 90’s dance anthem “Son of a Gun” via Pete Tong. Sparked by a DM from Rex The Dog, the collaboration led to a studio session in London and a fresh release, continuing the track’s 30+ year legacy.
East London-born, Birmingham-raised rapper Kofi Stone makes his return with “May Sound Crazy,” which reached the 8th spot last month. Introduced to us by Qobuz, the track, produced by Loice, features a soulful vocal sample as its hook and concludes with a verse from Zephaniah.
Pigeons & Planes, one of the most reputable music discovery platforms to emerge from the Blog Era, made it to the Top 10 with a comeback from Toro y Moi and his track “Smoke” from his latest album, Hole Erth.
